Keep your fermentation temperature in check with the BrewBuilt Universal CoolStix for flat-lid fermenters! Just about any homebrew fermenter with a flat lid can be modified to work with the Universal CoolStix. We especially like it with the Speidel 60L Plastic Fermenter or a simple 6-gallon bucket fermenter. Temperature control is one the most important aspects of a healthy, happy fermentation. When your fermenting beer gets too hot, the yeast will likely impart off-flavors that can easily overwhelm the taste of your finished beer. The Universal CoolStix is a revolutionary cooling solution for up to 10 gallon batch fermentations -- it is easy to clean, easy to setup, and cools quickly and efficiently. To install, simply drill out a 1-3/8" hole into the lid of your fermenter for the CoolStix grommet, and a 13/32" hole for the thermowell grommet.

The BrewBuilt CoolStix uses a submersible pump to circulate cooling solution and a digital temperatre controller to regulate flow. When the controller's temperature probe detects that your fermentation temp is getting too hot, it will power on the submersible pump to run ice water or glycol through the CoolStix. Once the temperature stabilizes, the controller will shut off the pump and stop circulation.

You will also need a cold water source to provide the cooling solution. For maintaining ale temperatures, a cooler or bucket of ice water is sufficient in most cases. For maintaining lager temperatures, we recommend the Icemaster 100 Glycol Chiller.

Can u use with 300l speidel fermenter?
Brian on Feb 6, 2021
BEST ANSWER: So I can say for the speidel, but I can say it does seem universal enough. I use it on the catalyst conical. There are some issues though. I would request extra thermowell grommets as I've gone through 5 or 6 in a year+.

Not knowing your chilling setup, is say you have to keep an eye on that. I don't have a glycol chiller, and that would probably be a nice thing to have. What I do have though is a small cooler that I fill with chilled water and then swap ice packs of as needed. It definitely does the job but there are times when I forget to check and the fermentation overpowers the cooling properties of the set up. I've had situations where my fermenter has hit the high 70's
Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to attach the plastic QD to the stainless tubing? The tubing appears to be 3/8in while the QD appears to be 1/4in or 5/16in. I don’t want to break the plastic QD.

Works great for Fermentation, not so great to Cold Crash
On a 60L Speidel fermenter, was easy to cut open the lid, add the thermowell and stir about 8-10" apart on either side of the center hole similar to product shots.

No problem controlling fermentation at 54F in a 65-70F garage un-insulated using a 5K BTU glycol chiller with 48qt cooler at 36F

Insulated the silicone tubing, used a 1/2" yoga mat to wrap around the fermenter, and tried to cold crash. Set glycol system to 33F, will not drop below 45F in a 55-60F garage.

May need to improve the insulation, but neither Speidel or Moreover make an insulation jacket for the coolstix.

I figure I might need a second set of six for one fermentor and loop the cooling in series with insulation to make cold crashing viable.

A little disappointing that it won't cold crash. I am concerned when my garage hits 80-90F in the summer, will I even be able to hold 54F to ferment? I wonder.
