Description

This awesome little fermenter is ideal for any fermentation, up to 2.5 gallons.  The unit is designed to be an all in one fermenter and bottling bucket.  The bowl shape at the base of the fermentor allows sediment to settle prior to bottling.  The wide opening on top allows for easy cleaning, large direct additions of fruit, hops or other products and overall easier access. Cool beer stein styling makes this the freshest fermentor on the market!

Great for splitting 5 gallon batches into two separate fermentation to test yeast, different dry hops, add oak to one, etc.

Use this fermenter for your next batch of fruit wine, half batch of beer or any other fermentation!  Holds roughly 2.9 gallons total; recommended for 2.5 gallon fermentations.

Seems like a great deal on a smaller fermenter. I am brewing 1-2 gallon batches and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg.

Just got this fermenter today, noticed there is no sealing o-ring on the lid even though there is a groove cut in the lid for one, should one be in the lid?
Robert Hicks on Mar 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Mine works very well and you only need to close the lid "hand tight". The unit seals and the air lock bubbles nicely during high krausen. This is the best half batch fermenter I have seen.
Is this pba free?
Charles D. Coskery on Mar 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The fermenter is BPA free.
What kind of plastic material is this made of? HDPE, PET, polypropylene, etc.?
Rich Z on Apr 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I bought a few of these and they work great. They are stamped on the bottom as #5 PP (Polypropylene) with an edible fork & knife food grade stamp as well, they are also stamped made in Italy, not China so hopefully some slightly better quality in plastic and construction there. I use these for 2.5-3 gallon batches of IPA/other assorted ales, not Hefes or lagers and never had any issues with blow off as long as I add some Ferm-Cap for 3 gal. batches. The spigots don’t leak at all as long as you tighten them correctly, I fill part way with water and then adjust tightness. Like all plastic they do hold a little odor from the previous brew but they are quick and easy to clean. Another good thing is the lid seals well and the plastic bucket is very rigid, solid and sturdy with a good thickness, not flimsy at all so they are easy to move around full of liquid and no fear of breakage when cleaning or using. They come with a cheap plastic S airlock that I replaced with a sturdier 3 piece airlock for $2-3 and it feels bulletproof for a cheap setup.
How tall is this bucket with the lid attached?
Peter Vargas on Jan 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: With lid, it is right at 15", perhaps just under by an 1/8" or so. This does not include the airlock.
Lid diameter?
Gregg Crawford on Sep 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The lid is 11.5” in diameter
What size tubing would fit on the spigot? I plan to bottle into mini kegs.
Thomas Shirk on Apr 15, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I've used 3/8 and/or 1/2 inch on to the outside of the spigot. I think the most important thing is to do a test run and make sure you get a setup that does not give you any air bubbles- I usually have to fiddle with both the tubing and the spigot connection to the fermenter itself.
How to get the lid to seal tight? I'm not able to get it airtight. Special tool?
Richard Miller on Nov 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It does not seal. I wouldn't have purchased it if I had known that. Some folks are OK with a primary fermenter that doesn't seal, though.
I suppose using this as a fermenter and bottling bucket that the bottle conditioning approach must be used, correct? Otherwise if you use this how could you do batch conditioning with all the trub at the bottom?
José Amador on Sep 30, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Not sure on batch conditioning as you would want to get off yeast. Unless siphon yeast off bottom-that would be tough. I used for a small batch and just transferred to second container to add sugar and bottled.
What is it made out of?
William Lewis on Mar 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The fermenter is made out of polypropylene.
When will this item be available again?

Having fun
Only used it once - still using it actually, making 2-1/2 gallons of mead. Love that it’s light, easy to clean, and doesn’t require a vacuum pump. I’m going to really enjoy it.

Nice little fermenter
I love this little fermenter, perfect for 2.5 gallon batches.
Some have complained that the lid is difficult to get on and off, takes a little finesse, but it's fine once you get the hang of it. Lid seals nicely, airlock is very active (though I did swap out the one that comes with it for a 3 piece).

I’m pleased!
I haven’t used it yet but I like the quality and the spigot (doesn’t leak) and the tight seal on the lid. I can’t wait to get my mead started!

Love it
I love this fermenter. Perfect size to fit into my temp control, convenient to move around, perfect for my 3gallon kegs.

My only complaint is that there's only a sticker included for the volume in there, but the line is 2.9 gallons. I'd like maybe just a line on the container which shows 3 gallon instead. I ended up just sharpie-ing a line for 3 gallons and not using the included sticker. It's not a big deal, still 5 stars

I like it a lot
It's a sturdy little fermenter for intermediate-sized homebrew batches. Contrary to some other reviews I have read, the lid really does make an airtight seal, but sometimes you have to try more than once to get it seated and locked. Another potential source of leakage is the airlock grommet, whose hole is a bit large for standard airlocks. I managed to get a tight seal on mine by wrapping some electrical tape around the airlock stem to create a firmer fit. Once I did this, the airlock started bubbling away.

Well built but lid very hard to screw on/off
This fermenter is a great size and well built but I will be returning because I cannot for the life of me get the lid on and off. Maybe it’s user error but something like this should be simple....I have yet to get it on properly when it’s empty and really struggle to unscrew the lid to get it off. Can’t imagine trying to do this when it’s full of wort or beer. Glad that MoreBeer has such an excellent return policy.

Fermenter leaks but refund is quick.
I had a mixed experience with this order and I am giving it three stars only because I received a prompt refund. Before I placed the order I tried calling customer service but nobody ever picked up. I wanted more specifics on the dimensions and that info wasn’t available anywhere on the website. I went ahead with the order but when I received the fermenter and began using it, I realized that it leaks from around the spigot. At first I thought that a couple of drops here and there won’t be a big deal, but before I knew it there was a puddle on my floor. The fermenter was unusable! I contacted customer service via email and they responded promptly and refunded my purchase.

Great Fermenter!
I love this thing. It's a great size for smaller batches, cleans easily, and is much higher quality than I expected. I have no issues getting a good seal but it does twist a little more than you think it might. It's not hard to twist on tight, just stops a little as if it were sealed but a little more and it seals tight.

The rounded bottom works nicely to keep some trub away from the spigot. The spigot also has a nut that is more like a cap with a semi circular opening to further assist in keeping unwanteds from flowing out of the spigot. I had no issues whatsoever with the spigot leaking.

I've been searching and searching the internet for a larger version but have been unsuccessful. If they made this in a bigger size I'd absolutely but it for 5 gal batches.

I will likely go with one of these again to have a second fermenter. I've never used a Speidel but at half the price I'm not sure what could make it worth the extra cost.
