Zatarains is an old brand that has a lot of fans. This extract has more of a sarsaparilla flavor, spicy, with black licorice overtones. We recommend Zatarin's if you like your Root Beer with a little kick! Good for 5 gallons of rootbeer.

The only product that gives the full rootbeer flavor

Extract-y, but a good first batch
Definitely not the most tasty and complex rootbeer I've had, and that may be unavoidable with extract. That said, it tastes like rootbeer and is totally drinkable. I learned (again) to be more careful about carbonation as I had decent bubbles and then let it sit out another 12hrs, so now they're all over-done. Only one blew up on me, while opening it, fortunately not hitting me in the eye! Haven't tried the Gnome extract yet to compare, but I'm satisfied with the taste of this one for what it is. Next time, real roots and seasonings!

great for floats
used this and it made for a awesome float but by itself in a drink not the greatest but good.

sharper, stronger rootbeer flavor
This isn't a typical rootbeer - much sharper flavor. I will try it next time with a bit of vanilla extract to see if that adjusts the flavor better. Not bad & definitely has more of niche flavor.

Hey at least it is drinkable. I have tried other brands and just ended up dumping it out. The best thing to do is taste it before you bottle or keg it to make sure it has enough flavor.

I like it, but not what everyone expects
This is not your A&W root beer; it is great, but has a sharp bite and some licorice. I love those flavors, but be warned. I made it a little less sweet than instructed (again, personal preference) and keg carbonated.

Not outstanding, but decent. I would suggest getting some licorice root to adjust the flavor as you see fit.

Not for Everyone
My wife is a huge Root beer fan, and wanted to make some so we bought a kit and this extract, but after it was made she thought it tasted alcoholic and bad. To me it tasted solid, but she did not enjoy the flavor and wouldn't drink the rest.

Nice product
I made this rootbeer recently and it turned out really well. It is more of a licorice style rootbeer as advertised. I added cane sugar and honey to sweeten it. I also added 1 TBSPN of vanilla extract to make it a little more creamy. I like to add some heading powder as well in order to aid in head stability. Overall it made a really nice rootbeer. Nice clean flavor and true to its advertised quality.
