Description

This Counterflow Chiller With Tri-Clover Fittings is an upgraded version of our always-popular Counterflow Wort Chiller that features wort inlet and outlets made of 1.5 inch tri-clover sanitary fittings. Although these tri-clover connections may seem a bit more confusing at first, they’re used in just about every commercial beer brewery because they’re much easier to clean than traditional threaded fittings.

On the water inlet and outlets, this Counterflow Chiller uses ¾ inch MPT and ¾ inch FPT garden hose fittings, just like the first model. The inner tube is made from 12 feet of 5/8-inch thick convoluted copper that continually spins the wort as it flows through, while the outer tube is made of 7/8 inch of high quality copper. Because of the convoluting nature of the pipes, you’re able to pump wort through without restricting the pump to slow down its flow. The result is a faster, more efficient cooling process and more sanitary parts throughout.

Can’t beat a convoluted counterflow chiller but would like more mounting options
This chiller works great. Cooled a 10 gallon batch in less than 20 min from boil to 70. Our water is about 53 degrees so that helps also. Only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is I would have liked to see a bracket on the side as well as the top of the tubing. That would give the brewer more mounting flexibility without DIY fabrication.

Great Chiller
I switched to this chiller after using a plate chiller for the last 4 years. It's easy to clean and very will built. The tri clamps ensure that the connection is sanitary and well worth the extra $$.

My only complaint is that the connections all face the same direction, this can be good or bad depending how your system is configured. For my system I needed them to face in opposite directions, but it was fairly easy for me to reconfigure my system.

Excellent buy
I have had this chiller for about a year now and have run many batches through it.
The Tri Clover is an excellent addition and fits in perfectly with the rest of my rig.
Cleaning and sanitizing is a snap with PBW and my pump and whirpool kettle.

With a modified for TC in-line thermometer and ball valve, i can easily control the temp going into the fermenter.

Premium Chiller!!!
I am very happy with the Convoluted Counterflow Chiller. I debated on purchasing a plate CFC, but was very concerned about properly cleaning and sanitizing after use. Each time I use the Convoluted CFC I wash and backwash hot PBW through the coil to insure all surfaces are cleaned well. After this, I rinse with hot water and use a shop vac to suck out any leftover water in the coil. At that point I let the CCFC air dry and is ready for the next brew day. I was very surprised how well this CFC chilled the wort. It does an awesome job of getting your wort to the proper yeast pitching temperature. The pro series edition is a great addition to my all tri clover brew system.

Overall, it works pretty well
I bought this to use in a HERMS set up and found it has less cooling or heating capacity than I expected - but then again no real statistics are published for it. I still use it in the herms capacity for circulating wort through to maintain mash temperatures, but I added other equipment to supplement the CFC's heat exchanging capacity.

I will shortly be using it in a post-boil chilling capacity with ice water running through it and will update this review when I have done that.

Great chiller!
I love this chiller, compact and efficient. I wasn't sure about the tri-clamp fittings, but am happy I went that way. Very easy to hook up. I soak in warm PBW right after the brew, and also again for 24 hours before the next one and haven't had problems with cleaning.
