WLP550 Belgian ale yeast is a wonderful overall strain for classic Belgian ales. Saisons, Belgian Ales, Belgian Reds, Belgian Browns, and White beers are just a few of the classic Belgian beer styles that can be created with this yeast strain. Phenolic and spicy flavors dominate the profile, with less fruitiness than WLP500.

I used this yeast to make a Belgian IPA and it was fantastic....I've made this same IPA 3 times now and it's been great each time!

Great performance and flavor
I needed to make a beer that appealed to the masses as well to hardened beer drinkers, a real crowd pleaser. With this yeast, my 6.6%ABV Belgian pale was delicious & ready to drink 2 weeks after brew day. I highly recommend this yeast.
At 68F, we got a moderately strong banana nose. If you want more pepper or clove, you may want to play with the temp a bit.

Good Belgian Flavor
Used this yeast for MoreBeer's Belgian Pale Ale All Grain kit and it worked very well. Went from OG of 1.054 to FG of 1.010. I fermented a bit higher, ~70F, and the Belgian flavors were bold and tasty.

Love this Belgian
My favorite of the Belgian strains. Works strong and somewhat hot. Check out the WhiteLabs website for proper info of course. Make a good starter with this one to avoid strain.

Great Yeast to work with
This yeast always starts strong finishes clean, with great flavor. Always seems very health with high viability and vitality. You can't go wrong with this yeast, my begian Duppel is a household favorite because of this yeast.

Great Belgian character
This is a stand by yeast for me. The balance between the esters & phenols is nice, if a bit on the stronger side.

Great flavor
A real treat to brew with. The vented CO2 has amazing aroma. Perfect for bready Belgians IMO.
