Simple pH Procedure
  1. Attach the pH electrode and press the ‘Power’ button
  2. Press the ‘Mode’ button and switch into ‘Cal’ mode.
  3. Set aside the storage solution, rinse with DI water and blot gently with a paper towel.
  4. Calibrate with the pH 4 & 7 reference solutions. Press enter when the ‘Cal’ LED flashes. Put into ‘pH’ mode.
  5. Take 5 mL sample of wine, place in a beaker. Take a pH reading.
Accurate TA Test
  1. For TA test, withdraw 5 mL of the TA Titrant with the syringe.
  2. Take 5 mL wine sample and add ~15 mL of deionized water.
  3. Put SC-200 into TA mode, place clean pH electrode gently in solution.
  4. Add TA Titrant dropwise until the endpoint is reached with the visual and audible signals. Record the volume (in mL) of titrant used.
  5. Multiply the titration volume by 2, the TA conversion factor, results in g/L Tartaric Acid.

Vinmetrica SC-100A and SC-200
The SC-100A makes it very easy to do determination of free SO2 concentration in wine. The titrations take only a minute or two and are repeatable. The SC-200 is a decent pH meter that give you a stable value in 15 seconds or less and will also allow easy determination of total acidity in wine. They are easy to use and use sound and display rather than color change as an indicator of completion. You will need a reliable pH meter, such as SC-200 along with the SC-100A to do free SO2 tests.

TA, ph, measurements are performed easily with accuracy to lend consistency to my fermentation process. I am happy with the product. I plan to get a holder for the electrode to simplify the procedure without risking damage to the tip.

Meter is not accurate
I agree with the 1st reviewer. Mine is now off by .23-.27. The problem is in the meter. I changed my electrode and the results have been the same. Perhaps the battery should be removed between seasons.

Lost it's ability to accurately test
This is the 3rd year I have used the tester. the 1st 2 I have had good results. This year the meter will not calibrate accurately. It is off by about .29 high for both the 4 and the 7. I believe I have stored the electrode as directed.

I agree with the previous comment. My testing is off by about .23-.27. The problem is with the meter. I did change electrodes and the results were the same.
