Viking Pilsner Malt

Viking Pilsner Malt

Please select from the following option(s) to see pricing and availability.

Viking Pils is a traditional European Pilsner malt with a delicate malt sweetness that gives your lagers that extra something special. Viking Pils is the perfect base for all lagers and essential for Pilsners, Helles, Marzen, Bock, Vienna Lager, etc.

When your making light lagers most brewers want the pils base malt to provide a bit of maltiness. It can be the difference between boring beer and amazing beer. We have gotten great feedback from pro brewers and many have switched to Viking after trying it.

We also have several craft breweries using this malt for the commercial production of light colored Pales, IPA's, and Hazys. When compared to our Viking Xtra Pale the flavor of the Pils malt is just a bit lighter. Some brewers love this for their really light colored ales that are bursting with hop flavors.

Viking Malt is one of the largest malting companies in the world and the largest roaster of specialty malts. They are the main malt supplier to the famous Carlsberg brewery. Viking is not well known in the USA because they haven't had good US distribution. Because MoreBeer! and MoreBeer! Pro is directly importing thousands of tons of malt we are stoked to offer you Northern European malt quality from one of the best malting companies in the world at lower than domestic malt pricing.

Viking Malt has 6 malthouses in areas where distinctive Nordic barley are sourced: in Halmstad, Sweden; Vordingborg, Denmark; Lahti, Finland; Panevezys, Lithuania and in Sierpc and Strzegom, Poland.  The advantage of northern European malt is lower protein levels, good kernel size, and less amount of pesticides used due to the cold winters.

Malting my beer up! Great selections!
Planer malt was delivered in just a few days as promised, which was a pleasant surprise.
I'm moving from beer kits to trying my own recipes with local hops. The other malts I've used so far added rich flavors to my beer. Thumbs up from this beer maker.

Viking malts
I love Viking Malts. I purchase a 55 lb. sack at a time. The price per pound is amazing and keeps me brewing more often. For the price it pays for it self after three brews. Flavor is good and have had no issues with grain freshness. Would recommend!!!!

Great European pilsner for less
I've been very pleased with this pilsner malt, and it's the cheapest I have found in the 10lb bags, especially with a 15% discount.

Good base malt
Good base malt for the money. It is a little dark for a pilsner malt, but otherwise a great value. Good flavor, good extraction.

I am brewing tomorrow, so I can't say how the grain tastes, but milling WAS a problem. The kernels are HUGE! I had to change the gap on my mill to get them to grind. Smelled good and tasted good by itself.

I'll update review when I beer is done. Making a Trappist Single.

I had a diificult time milling this grain
I do not know why but this grain would get clogged up in my mill. I have never experienced this with any other grain before.

Response from MoreFlavor
Hi Richard - coming from this site: ( one of the comments was: "If your mill is feeding an auger that takes milled grain to your mashtun or grist case, you could be running too fast for that auger to keep up. So your milled grain is backing up to the mill rollers which is adding resistance and slowing the rollers and output down. Mill/auger systems are a balancing act and you can only go as fast as the slowest link. An easy way to test it would be to run a single bag or set load through the system with a 20 second window between loads. If there is no problem then decrease the window. Once it balks or slows you know how fast you can go and you will need to slow down the infeed appropriately." If you need more assistance please give us a call at 1-800-600-0033 or email us at so that we can assist you. We are here to help. Cheers!

Great taste and value!
I loved the flavor profile I got from this malt. It rivals that of the Wyerman malts I’ve had as far as taste. I did find that my efficiency was slightly less. But after reading other reviews that had similar experiences I just added slightly more grain and hit my numbers perfect.
