For wine we like this as a good all around hydrometer to check if fermentation has begun. Wed also use the 12 to 0 and the 5 to -5 for more accurate measurements at lower Brix.

Decent quality
A good hydrometer. I ordered three, just to have backup in case the inevitable happens. I fo have more expensive ones, but these are nice to have in hand.

hard to read
The numbers are very small and the one I had previously had colors on it every 10 degrees so I could get a better idea. I probably should have bought the final gravity one because that is all I use it for. The final gravity Hydrometer was a lot more money. I don't know why. I use a refractometer for my starting gravity.

Response from MoreFlavor
Hi Jim - Final Gravity hydrometers are very precise and subsequently more difficult to manufacture.

This thing is solid...
well no not quite but in comparison to the two that I broke with almost no effort on my part, this one should last a lot longer since it is more robust.

I believe the only way I'll break this one is if I drop it and it might not break even I did that (I think ?!?).

Now because the graduated part is wider or thicker, it is a bit shorter than the other ones and subsequently a bit harder to read.

I'm quite willing to put up with that. There is nothing so aggravating as dropping one and then turning around to pull the other one out of the dishwasher, only to hear it snap as it catches on the rack.

Not accurate
It’s possibe I just got a bad one, but it’s clear that the measurement lines are not spaced evenly.

It's a Triple Scale Hydrometer
I have enough experience brewing that I don't need all of the bells and whistles of some of the more expensive Hydrometers. I have always had Triple Scale Hydrometers because I started brewing with them. They are easy enough to read and I get great measurements whether I want to be spot on accurate or approximate. My preference is to be spot on accurate.
I would recommend this Hydrometer.

Better than the colored triple scales
This hydrometer works great and is much easier to read than the ones with multi-colored backgrounds. Love it.
