Description

(Makes 5 gallons) A sweet stout uses lactose (milk sugar) to add a silky creamy texture to the body of the beer. This beer is rich and full of roasted flavors complimented with a sweetness from the lactose. Lactose is un-fermentable which adds a creamy body to the beer.

Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. To find our yeast recommendations, choose your preferred kit option above and then select the drop-down menu under “Yeast Options”.  For more info, click on the recommended yeast(s) below in the “You Might Also Need” section below. All included steeping grains will come milled.
 

Please Note: In order to better serve our customers, we are now offering our extract recipe kits with either Liquid Malt Extract (LME) or Dried Malt Extract (DME). The majority of our DME kits were converted from the LME version, which is why you may notice slight variances in the extract names and quantities on your recipe sheet. You may also find that your Specific Gravity and ABV% are slightly higher if you choose DME. Whether LME or DME, add all extracts provided according to the recipe sheet. I need to make a coffe stout. I need a base recipe for "sweet" milk stout since this recipe is for my wife and she likes a similar brew at our local brew pub.

I have brewed this kit before, which turned out pretty good. Added Lactose as well as soaked 4oz of Cacao Nibs in Vodka and added to the fermenter.

What’s the final gravity supposed to be? My OG was 1.054 and final gravity is 1.02 giving me an ABV of 3.9%. It seems off.

BEST ANSWER: The final gravity is always variable as it always relies on a lot of factors. The Beer Judge Certification Program Style Guide gives a range of 1.012-1.024 and alcohol content from 4%-6%. So you are in the proper range for gravity and alcohol. Your apparent attenuation is low at 63%, but that depends on the yeast strain and it may very well be in the range offered by the manufacturer. Also always good to remember that lactose is unfermentable and therefore will increase your FG at a dependable rate. If you use a stronger yeast, maybe with more nutrient or higher temp, you will likely end up with a slightly dryer beer with the balanced flavor that you want. Cheers!

nice kit, complete (no yeast) but everything else and it was...
real easy, I brewed the first one months ago. I liked it. Bottled some of it up, aged it and then gave a six'r away as a birthday present. He's a BMC guy and he didn't like it (couldn't even figure out what it was). His wife on the other hand loved it (and her friends) go figure. Now they want another batch (or 3)... :-)

I'd pay money for this at my local brew pub!
A friend of mine recommended this and he was spot on! Tasty, sweet and with a little bit of hop flavoring. No bitterness. Seems to be getting better as it gets a few weeks of aging on it. I'll definitely be doing this one again!

Smooth and yummy....oh la la!!!!!

Added 4 oz cacao nibs for 5 days in secondary....Great..this a wonderful milk stout folks!

This was my 4th or 5th brew, I added 4 oz of cacao nibs to the secondary for 8 days or so, and it came out great. Really wanted to see how it would be after a few more months, but it just didn't last. Will have to make it again soon and tuck some away on the closet to age

Espresso!
This was my first milk stout kit. I added 2oz. of cold pressed espresso coffee to the secondary. Came out amazing! I want to brew it again and add more espresso and maybe an additional flavor. Highly recommend! Will brew again!

Wow...just wow.
Before I started this hobby, my favorite beer was a stout from a Louisiana brewery called Turbodog. This is the closest thing I have had to that. This beer is smooth liquid chocolate goodness.

It is easily my favorite kit that I have done off this site so far.

Only complaint that I have is that I would like more carbonation, but that is mostly attributable to bottle conditioning. I can't wait to taste this off a keg.

The kit is easy, and the beer is great. This is a must brew. I am off to order another....
