Founded in 1996, Stone Brewing Co. has unleashed a demand for over-the-top beers. Their flagship, Arrogant Bastard Ale, challenged us to pick up a bottle and drink it, kicking off a cult-like following of the beer and the brewery. For their 12th Anniversary, Head Brewer Mitch Steele and the Stone Brew Crew worked with homebrew recipes from Brewhouse Supervisor Jeremy Moynier and Distribution Supervisor Jake Ratzke to create this huge oatmeal stout, but instead of relying on just hops for the bitterness he added some cacao to the boil kettle. The result is simply amazing! We first had this beer at the shop and thought, "We have to have this recipe"! Mitch and Greg must have felt the same way about this beer that we did and handed it over. Stone Brewing Co. is located in Escondido, Ca, so next time you are in Southern California, make it a point to stop by. They have a fantastic restaurant as well, using locally-grown food and a focus on quality.
