My bulkhead leaks if i put the gasket on the inside, no matter how soft or tight I crank it down. If I put it on the outside it doesn't leak at all, but since it's for a brew kettle, I'm wondering if it will melt from the heat of my propane burner. Any insight?
Jared Wyatt on Feb 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jared, as you've discovered, those gaskets do need to be on the outside. They have a fairly high melting point, around 600F I think and I've never had one melt or break down on me. That said, if you're using a high pressure burner on a small pot, the flames can lick up over the bottom of the pot if you crank it up too high. I tend to keep those types of burners turned down a bit to avoid damaging the gaskets. It is still high enough for a strong boil on a full pot. Low pressure burners shouldn't have that problem.
how long is the shank? I'm wondering if i can use this in an igloo cooler
Carl Rustic on Jan 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The shank is 1-7/8" long. This is the same bulkhead we use on our Rubbermaid cooler mash tuns and hot liquor tanks.

Great Sturdy Bulkhead
This is way stronger than any previous 3 piece bulkhead by competition. No leaks. It is not a standard 13/16 - 7/8 hole You need a 1 inch hole. Also works exceptionally well on Rubbermaid Tuns.

Quality Product, But Does Not Fit Igloo Construction-Style Beverage Cooler
The quality of this bulkhead seems great and I like that it includes two gaskets. Unfortunately it does not fit the factory drilled spigot hole on Igloo construction-style beverage coolers. It can be inserted in reverse, but may not form an effective seal. This was my mistake, as I did not measure.

Weird piece.
The outside threading is not 3/4 npt. I bought one of these hoping it would work as a reducer and bulkhead at the same time. The outside threading is weird though. I guess if you only need it for a bulkhead it does the job.

works as advertised
Great product to add a weldless fitting, just be sure to save time and frustration and buy a greenlee 730BB-1 one inch knockout punch.
