Description

The Ss recirculation manifold is a nice gentle way to recirculate your wort. The manifold sits on top of the grain bed and evenly distributes the flow through 24 different holes on top of the manifold. Works great with our recirculation bulkhead fitting (BE386) and 1/2" FPT to 3/8" knurled hose barb (BE387). The manifold will fit in Ss Brewtech 10-30 gal kettles and mash tuns. It's 12.6" in diameter of 304 stainless steel with a 3/8" hose barb inlet.

Can this be used to sparge with?
Gerald Wright on Sep 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I use this for both sparging and recirculation of mash. The benefit being that this sits on top of your grain bed but below your surface water/wort which eliminates any aeration of wort and minimizes temperature loss. I use it with both gravity and pump and it works effortlessly in both scenarios. The best part is that it works for just about any size mash tun.
Will this fit in a 10 gal rubermaid cooler?
Floyd Stokes on Dec 12, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, with a caveat. The inside walls of the Igloo sometimes bow inward a little due to the high temperature of hot water used for the mash. This may be evident when cleaning the Igloo after performing a mash. The bowing can cause an improper or 'tighter than usual' fit for the manifold when preparing for the next mash.

In this case, the manifold should still be set as close to the grain bed as possible before lautering. The manifold can then be manually adjusted (or it may 'self-adjust') closer to the grain bed during an active lautering, as the inside walls of the Igloo relax again and are slightly malleable with the heat. If the manifold starts out tight, keep an eye on it and adjust it as needed during the mash. This procedure worked well for me when I used the manifold.

Well built and sturdy
I bought this to use in my 65L Brewzilla. I had totally forgotten about the overflow tube in the mash pipe, so it will not work with it. BUMMER. Decided to give it to my nephew, who uses an Igloo cooler to mash, and he is excited. He has been wanting to do recirc mash for a while, and this will let him step to the next level.

Works great
Works great. Nice and even wort distribution and enough outlets to prevent disturbing the grain bed with my Riptide pump. Just be sure to varlauf prior to using or it will get clogged with chunky grain bits. Blast it out with a high pressure garden hose and recirculate with PBW to clean.

Promising idea, problems in operation. Still trying....
The theory seems great. But in operation, the manifold has plugged more often than not, despite the perforated false bottom that sits on the bottom of my mash tun. The manifold also sinks deeply into the mash. The plugging problem could be solved with an inline filter between mash tun outlet and the pump, and the sinking by suspending the manifold from above. Still seems promising, but be prepared for additional tinkering.

Nice addition
This seems to be a nice addition to my HERMS system. I like the way it dispenses the circulating wort evenly over the top of the grains.

Worked very well
The SS manifold worked well during my last mash/lauter. I used it for both recirculating and sparging in a 10 gallon Igloo mash tun. The manifold fit well in the mash tun and was easy to clean afterwards.

Awesome tool for recirculating and fly sparge
I have used this on 4 batches so far and it has performed great each time.
For years I was using the fighter jet cone thing while fly sparging and recirculating which caused a lot of foam and could never really position it well over the center of the mash. It worked but had to be monitored to make sure I wasn't getting a stuck sparge or cutting into the grain bed.
Each experience I have had with the ss manifold has been much simpler and it's more of a set it and forget it. At the last 15 minutes of the mash I start to recirculate to set the grain bed and clear the wort and it has been flawless.

Great flow
Used this on our last batch instead of an open hose. It created a very even, circular flow across the top of the grain bed. The OG came out to 1.068 instead of the usual 1.061. I'd have to attribute it to this device, as it was the only change we made to our process in a standard recipe.
The only thing I would change is have a female NPT in the center so you can use the fitting of your choice, instead of the welded straight hose barb
If it is getting plugged up with grains, you should look at your equipment and process. Perhaps the false bottom or other filtering is inadequate, too much water in the mash or not enough flow and it tends to sink. We got some grains in it, but it was far from getting plugged up.
