Imagine a brewing pump that eliminates cavitation, is easy to clean, has a built in valve, and is quiet. Introducing The RipTide pump from Blichmann, the first pump designed specifically for homebrewing.

We love this brew pump. Like a brewer wired on coffee, let us rattle off some of our favorite features.  First, the pull style relief valve that allows air to exit the pump head so the impeller won't cavitate is a genius addition. Our next favorite feature is the bad-ass, built-in flow control valve so you don't have to add additional ball-valves. While we dont manually clean our pumps very often we like the idea that we can easily do that with the clover clamp style connection. That might be particularly important if you are transferring cool wort where extra sanitation might make a difference.  Equally cool is the noise, or lack thereof, when operating. It just wears on you to hear your pump grinding away all day. The RipTide pump isn't silent, but it is much quieter.  And to top it all off we like the mounting base and the extra long 9' cord. 9' gets the plug connection a few feet away from where we are brewing and less likely to be exposed to water - a simple upgrade that is really nice.  Oh, and we almost forgot the power switch which is always a nice feature on something electric!

All in all this is a no brainer upgrade for the difference in cost.

  • Strong rare earth magnets and a curved blade impeller provide 7 GPM and up to 21 ft of lift
  • Tri-Clamp head disassembles easily for cleaning
  • 1/2" NPT inlet and outlet
  • Motor is enclosed in a splash proof and super quiet case
  • Rotatable stainless steel head
  • Integrated air release vent allows you to easily prime the pump everytime without those frustrating air bubbles and cavitation
  • Linear flow valve provided for excellent flow control
  • Power switch on base
  • 10 ft. long power cord with 120V plug

I wanted a second one to bring everything down to one level. So worth it when you are dealing with 10 G batches. This pump is quiet and has a lot of well engineered details that only a brewer would appreciate.

What’s the amp rating for this pump?
neal dekoeyer on Sep 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Neal - I am unable to find documentation on amperage.
what is the temperature rating for this pump? can it be used with boiling liquids?
Eric Albrecht on Jun 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The pump sits away and separate from the impeller body, so hot liquid does not directly heat the motor. The impeller is a magnetic drive, so there is no direct linkage or shaft connection. I used this pump many times to maintain a whirlpool in the boil kettle with near boiling wort and there was no ill effect on the pump.
I run a small winery, would pump would work as a transfer pump? Currently using a surflo at 3 gpm.
Kirk Taylor on Jun 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It can work great as a transfer pump, but it will depend on your setup. The Riptide will transfer at a faster rate than the surflo, but won't build as much pressure. Transferring long distances, to higher elevations, or into the bottom of a large tank might slow or even stop the flow. That said, it's a great pump and I love mine. Tech support at Blichmann is great, let them know how you plan to use it and I'm sure they can give you an idea how well it will work. They want their customers to be happy
Does the pump need to be horizontal to function or can it be mounted vertically? (Like on a wall)
Benton K on Oct 7, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This can be mounted vertically or horizontally, it does not affect function of the pump. The pump does need to be primed, we do that by filling the inlet tube with water, then immediately submerging it in the liquid we will pump, and turning the pump on. Works every time, and it doesn't matter what position the pump is in.Enter an answer to this question.
will this pump work with a 2 barrel system?

excellent pump
Worth the extra money especially when you consider they fact that it comes with a high quality valve. Cleaning is a breeze with the clover clamp.
If I had one design challenge/upgrade for Blichmann on this pump it would be to manage the spray you get when you use the air release. Makes a bit of a mess sometimes.

Really excellent pump. Had no issues priming, it’s quiet, and moves a good volume of liquid. Integrated valve is great, as is ease of disassembling to clean. This pump is so good that I’m giving serious consideration to forgoing the BrewEasy type system for a horizontal two vessel RIMS arrangement.

Nice quiet pump.
This is a good general pump for brewing. Quiet, plenty of power, has on/off switch and built in flow control valve.

Superior pump
My all grain system came with two Chugger pumps, one of which would lose prime at inopportune times and I couldn't determine why. Finally got the RipTide which cured the problem. It is stronger, quieter, easier to clean, runs cooler , and is easier to prime than the other pump. It appears to be build like a tank.

Worth it
My first pump. I was surprised at how quiet it is. I like the ability to take it apart without the need of tools using the tri-clamp. I like the release valve to bleed it and prime the pump and the flow is strong.

Totally worth the money.
1 wing nut is all it takes to clean this. That alone is worth it. Pin valve works great and I could make super fine adjustments for sparge, and self priming is a breeze. Do yourself a favor and get the quick disconnects for the hoses. No leaks and everything worked perfectly. One other note... it’s VERY quiet compared to other pumps.
