What size ball valve is provided? Will it work with the H503 Male QD x 1/2" MPT instead of using the 3/8" barb?
Ryan Brandush on Aug 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Ryan - Yes, it accepts 1/2 MPT, make sure to use some plumbers tape when installing the new fitting.

Leaks a little
It leaks a little. There was no gasket on the outside only on the inside. I’ve never been able to get a deal with just an inside gasket, so maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I’d expect a bit of testing in thier end for the price.

Great product and it does a great job
I have been brewing over a year now and mostly did BIAB or extract. Bought this and used it for the first time. Beer turned out great and had no problems with the process.

One of the best investments I've made
I used a bazooka in a chest cooler and always had problems holding my mash temps. I always lost way to much heat. Since purchasing this Mash Tun I hit my temps more constantly and I can hold them temp with ease now.

Great starting place
A great value for those looking to go all-grain. Only 4 stars because after a year my HLT is starting to warp on the inside.

Perfect for all grain
Even though I have a larger system now, I still use this one for small batches or new experiments, they last a lifetime

Great Buy
I decided to build my own mash tun which cost roughly 100 all said and done. The result was a mash tun that would lose 7 to 10 degrees during mashing. So I decided to buy this and I couldn't be more happy. My first all grain batch I hit my temps and didn't lose more than 2 degrees during my mash. Thank you Morebeer for making a quality product.

Fantastic Value
This is really well built and well worth the time it would save to try and build one. Very high quality thanks again!

Quality product. No question.
I disagree with the previous comment... Having purchased this product (w/ the previous 9" false bottom) and used it multiple times I can attest to the quality. Since they replaced the previous 9" false bottom with the 12" one, efficiencies in your brewhouse will improve well beyond that of a bazooka tube type setup. In going the DIY route I was unable to find the quality stainless hardware that I wanted. I'm in a very rural area so the shipping alone in going the DIY route and purchasing from multiple vendors would put me over this price point. Thanks MoreBeer. Cheers.

I purchased this set up roughly 7 years ago and it's worked fine. I like that I can take it all apart to clean. At the time I think I paid about 120-130 dollars. I priced all of the parts separately including a cooler and it was about a 20 dollar premium. Well worth it. The only thing that's been a problem is that as soon as I start adding the hot water to lauter, I hit a "period" of the grain wanting to come through. I actually have to open the valve slightly to allow the obstruction through. I use a hand held strainer to get it out of the boil kettle. This goes on for several minutes anf then seems to subside. The rest of the lauter goes along fine. I have actually thought about retrofitting this set up with a tube screen but did not consider the efficiency loss. I'm now wondering about the mash getting stuck since the tube will be completely in contact with the grain bed...no pocket for wort. Any opinions welcome before I pull the trigger...
