Description

1.7 - 2.3° L Malting co. of Ireland  - Stout Malt is a light-colored base malt produced from Propino barley. It's characterized by plump kernels with very low protein and high extract. The kilning temperature is kept low (82-84 °C) resulting in a lighter wort with higher enzyme levels. The Irish Stout Malt is a versatile malt that performs well in the brewhouse. Typically used as the base for the top tier Irish Stout brands, it can be used in almost any application where traditional English type malts are preferred.

Typical Malt Analysis:
Moisture %: 4.5% max.
FGE (dry)%: 82.0% min.
Color (L): 1.7 - 2.3° L

Excellent
Can't say enough about the mouthfeel of this grain. I brewed a 1/2 barrel batch of my bourbon java stout and this made it pop...beyond grateful that MoreBeer is carrying it as a regular product...I'll be buying it by the bagful as I brew this beer 4x's a year...

Makes good base malt with adjuncts
I use this like a two row for part of grain bill in ales and lagers. Helps convert adjuncts well.

Awesome base for stouts and malt for others.
I use this as my base for all stouts and ales. Extraction, color and flavor is outstanding. Kernels are nice and plump. I also use as malt additions in many Belgians. If you want to keep your stouts authentic then this is your malt.

I've now used in 3 stouts; I will never use another base
Making an Irish stout, I was drawn to this grain after hearing about it on the BeerSmith podcast. It did not disappoint. I have now used in three batches, and am ordering now for my fourth. Unbelievable body and mouth feel. The traditional malty body and taste of an Irish stout. It's as good as it gets.

Great
I used this to make a stout and the grain arrived sealed and fresh. Stout turned out great.
