Description

For the savvy DIY homebrewer with mechanical ability and electrical wiring knowledge, this high torque motor is perfect for motorizing your Malt Muncher grain mill. The motor is unique because it is sealed for safety and also features a built in gear reduction to produce the perfect output speed of 180rpm. A spider coupling for connecting mill shaft to motor shaft is included and will fit both 10 and 12 mm shafts.  The picture shows how the motor is connected to the mill. Mill is not included. We do not provide wiring diagrams on how to connect electricity or an on/off switch so you may need to contact an electrician to complete your project.

2 wires coming out , 1 black, 1 red. I assume black is positive???

BEST ANSWER: The motor uses and external starter capacitor which will allow you to set the direction of rotation for the motor which is nice. I didn't need to change mine because of the side the drive shaft was on. Because of this you will have to use the include box with the on/off switch or remove and use the starter cap inside if you choose a different switch/box to control the motor.

There are two wires coming out of the box with the switch / starter cap, red and black. The black wire is the neutral and the red wire is the hot.

Technically it will work either way but that is the way it should be wired for safety. In the US for 120 volt wiring white is neutral and any other color but green/gray is hot (usually black for residential wiring). Green or bare wire is ground.

The motor is from Australia, that is why the wiring color is odd. There black is neutral and red is hot.

Powerful little motor for the savvy home brewer
Perfect for my needs. It's relatively small and paired with my Monster Mill MM2 fits on a board that sits on just a single 5 gal bucket.

Wiring is trivial, but I do recommend installing a cable gland, it's easy and cheap and will secure power cable to the control box. Don't forget the ground wire!

The included coupling is metric 12 mm for the motor and 10 and 12 mm for the mill side. Do yourself a favor and order Lovejoy L050 hubs and spiders in 12 mm bore and whatever fits your mill (likely 3/8 inch if not Malt Muncher). They're like 4 bucks each and MUCH superior to what's included.

No issues grinding with the MM2 down to below credit card thickness gap. Plenty of torque for the average home brewing mill. A joy to integrate to my system!

I paired my motor with the 3 roller malt muncher and hopper extensions. It grinds my 20 odd pounds of grain without fail.

Decent price, but far from a heavy duty motor. It failed within the first 3 weeks we had it. High torque, low RPM motors are hard to find though, so this is an option for light duty.
