What yeast is included in this kit?
conshyhonky on Mar 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Their kits don’t come with yeast, you have to order it separate They recommend white labs Irish ale yeast.
Should I order the pre milled version for a digiboil with mash basket or is it too fine?
Stephen Hirschmugl on Jan 26, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Because I have a grain mill and use a fine mesh bag for BIAB,I prefer to mill my own grain. I mill my grain much finer than what I get from pre-milled grain. If you have the ability to mill your own grain, I would pursue that so that you get the level of grain crush you prefer. Bear in mind that the unmilled grain will only apply to the base malt since MoreBeer always pre-mills the specialty malts in their kits. All that being said, pre-milled grain is more likely to err on the side of too coarse than too fine.

Irish Brown Ale
I ordered this before loading all of the ingredients into BeerSmith, when I should have done prior. I just brewed today, and the wort turned brown very quickly. I thought I had made a mistake, but later loaded the grain bill into BeerSmith to try to troubleshoot where I went wrong, only to discover that the preview color is identical to what went into my fermenter. I'm giving it 4 stars because it smelled great going in and I'm sure it'll be a delicious beer, but was really wanting a red, not a red-brown.

Ok, but little residual malt
I got the efficiency for the mash that the instructions said ai should get. Final sg was right on target. My only gripe is the lack of “maltiness” in the final product. To me Irish reds need a good malt taste. If I get this again will add 2-3 pounds of base malt to the recipe.

Good Red
I'm not a huge fan of red ales but this is nice. Just enough of the darker malts to make it interesting.
