Clear glass marbles are a great choice for filling up volume in a small fermenter or oak barrel. Most of us have been in that situation where we have the ideal container we want to use to store our wine, but we just don't have quite enough wine. What are your choices? Either use several smaller containers, buy wine to top up, or try to purge the air space with inert gas. None of these are ideal solutions.

Clear glass marbles, free of ink or contamination, are an ideal solution. Use just as much as you need to top up the vessel. When you transfer the wine out, remove your marbles, wash and reuse with your next batch (just don't lose them...)

3 lbs of marbles is enough to displace approximately 1 Liter of liquid.

Count: Approximately 615

To top up my gravity filtering water machine. There's a few inches of space where water would pool below the spout otherwise.

I actually plan to use these to make sauerkraut, but that has all the same problems as storing wine: I need to submerge these in acid for an extended period to displace air.

I am fermenting all sorts of things right now and I need weights that can form to the container I am using. I will put these glass beads in a cheesecloth and tie it off and use it as my weight system for sauerkraut.

I have a beverage decanter that has 2.5" of space between the bottom and the dispinser. I'm hoping these will fill the space so people don't tip my decanter to get the wine to come out.

i am trying to cook 'sous-vide' without using plastic. hopefully these marbles will allow me to displace as much liquid/fat as possible when cooking meats and fish in glass vessels, while conducting heat and providing a small modicum of 'vide' (pressure/weight).

Food Fermenting
I was expecting larger size marbles. However, the size is working out well. I am currently using them loose in a quart size mason jar to top off vegetables to make kimchi. They are keeping the vegetables submerged in the brine nicely.

I plan on using them also when I make sauerkraut in a gallon jar. I will use the entire 3 lbs of marbles confined in nylon netting and place on top of the cabbage. I did a test with nylon netting and the marbles conform well within the jar and will cover the entire surface with plenty of depth.

marbles really work
Marbles are a great way and least expensive way to top of barrels. I am using marbles in my oak barrel roughly 1.5 lbs every month depending on evaporation amount. So far, for 2 months, I have used 3 lbs.
Great invention. better than using new wine to top up every month in my opinion..

Love these.
These marbles are the best thing I've found for topping up your carboys. They are small and clear so you can see if you have cleaned them properly. I wash them with PBW, then sanitize the with Star san. Much safer than topping off with a similar wine.

Must have!
These are a MUST HAVE item for you if you ever are unable to fill your carboy to the neck. Eliminating headspace (exposure to oxygen) is vital in winemaking...and these can be cleaned and sanitized easily and are the best item I've found to help fill space (other than adding wine itself from an earlier vintage or similar varietal).

Safe marbles
I was looking for marbles to top off carboys. I bought some colored marble for kids use and noticed they were made in China. I was afraid of what minerals were used to make colored marbles in China. Since beer is a food product, no way was I going to use them in my brew.
I found the MoreBeer clear marbles and was very happy with them.
I sanitize them and into the carboy with no fear of contamination.
