Cellar Craft Showcase Collection Wine Making Kit - Washington State Gewurztraminer-Riesling

Item currently out of stock

Are you a homebrewer interested in expanding your fermentation hobby?  Well, why not jump into winemaking!  Our wine kits are an excellent way to make high quality wine at home, without requiring all of the large equipment that wineries use.  We have dozens to choose from, so no matter what your favorite type of wine, we're certain to have a kit you'll like!

Cellar Craft's Showcase Series white wine kits include a huge 16L of varietal juice and concentrate! Sources from some of the finest vineyards around the world, these wines really shine! Under contract with Cellar Craft, the vineyards used to create these kits are limited to a harvest load of just 3 tons/acre. Gently processed and soft pressed, the juices are then settled by gravity alone - no enzymes, filter aids or fining agents are used in the process. Additionally, the juices are never altered - no sugars, botanicals, esters, etc. have been added. What you get is essentially professionally handled varietal white must, slightly concentrated.

Like other kits on the market, Cellar Craft's Showcase Series white wine kits come with all the ingredients you'll need to make a great wine out of the box. However, we encourage you to also experiment with different yeast strains and oak styles to create a wine that is exactly what you're looking for and truly unique.

While technically ready to bottle and drink in 6 weeks, Cellar Craft recommends aging these wines for 1 year or more to see full development of the wine's character. Choose to age in the carboy if you want the opportunity to play around with acidity and finishing additives later, or age in the bottle to see what you get straight from the manufacturer. Just be careful - we all know how hard it is to keep your hands off once the wine's in the bottle!

Makes 6 gallons, or 2 cases, of finished wine

Does this wine finish dry or sweet?
John Hoffman on Feb 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It's a very easy to drink, smooth wine that I would call middle of the road on the sweet to dry scale.
Two questions: Does anyone know the ratio of Riesling to Gewurzt in the wine? And what yeast does the kit come with?
Mark T. Hoyer on Jun 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The kit comes with Lalvin QA23 yeast. No idea as to the ratio of the wines in the blend. In hind sight, I would rather have bought the Gewurztraminer because it is some of the best white wine I’ve ever made.

Anxious to try this wine
Since Riesling and Gewurztraminer are two of my favorite wines, I was excited to see them combined in a wine kit. At this time, we are aging/clarifying before bottling in 24 days. It is a beautiful deep yellow color, and smells wonderfully fruity.

I just bottled this yesterday and its a very nice wine. if you like chateau st michelle or any Washington/CA rieslings or gerwurtraminers you won't be disappointed. Deep gold color and very clear. warm apples, cinnamon, pear, a big mouthfeel, and even a buttery finish at times. I'd put this up against Chateau Montelena's $20 riesling any day (although their's is a much dryer/crisper finish). in any event my wife really likes it, and I added some wine conditioner/sweetener to about half the batch (I thought it finished to a semi sweet/off dry, but she likes wines even sweeter). anyway I can't wait till fall as this seems like a great harvest type wine. I netted 27 bottles and that was with a handful of sampling along the way and bench tasting at bottling. my only mistake was not bottling it right on the schedule, as I waited a few weeks more in bulk and I though it lost some of the buttery finish, maybe because of air, but I still think its going to age very well in the next 6 months. Kit comes with labels which are a nice touch

Great kit, give it time
This is a fantastic white kit. I added some french oak spirals during bulk aging and it gave it a really great profile. Don't drink this one (too much :) early on, it really gets much better with a bit of time. Let it sit for 4 or 6 months and it absolutely will shine.

This kit makes a really nice white blend!
We agree that Gewurztraminer and Riesling work great in this kit. It's very flavorful and goes well with spicy Asian and pasta dishes. We made this kit twice and had many nice comments from friends and relatives who tried it.

The kit comes with a "flavor reserve" that is basically concentrated juice held back from fermentation. It adds some sweetness and flavor to the wine. So this ends as an off-dry white, but not as sweet as many commercial Rieslings. Just about right to our taste.

An amazing wine and great value
This was the second Cellar Craft white wine kit I have made and both were extremely easy. After six months this wine is already outstanding. We tend to drink Riesling as our "go to" white and thought this kit would be fun to try. The Gewurztraminer is a perfect twist on the classic Riesling flavor and aroma, while the extra structure and color are quite welcome. If you think you would enjoy a Riesling with a bit more intensity then you absolutely should buy this kit.
