Hard Seltzer

Put down the mash paddle and grab an oar! Popular brands like White Claw and Truly have cemented hard seltzer as a light, refreshing, low calorie alternative to beer, and although our love for beer is everlasting, we gotta admit this hard seltzer stuff isn’t half bad! But like any self-respecting homebrewer, we asked ourselves, “Why buy at the store what we can make at home!?” Enter the White Water Hard Seltzer kit series. Instead of rushing in to catch the wave, we spent a year developing a recipe kit that is both super tasty and easy to make. Our kits include everything you need to nail your very first batch of hard seltzer with easy-to-follow instructions. Choose from popular flavors like cherry, peach, and raspberry, or pick up the Classic for a no-nonsense unflavored seltzer. You’ll be laid back like an otter when you’re drinking White Water!

Making Your Own Hard Seltzer!

When we began designing our hard seltzer recipe kits, we wanted to make sure that they were both super tasty and easy enough to make that any homebrewer would crush it on their very first batch. Over the course of year, we developed our seltzer kits by fine tuning the water profile and nailing down the nutrient requirements. While seltzers are simple beverages, they can actually be very difficult to ferment if you don’t add the correct yeast nutrients and water salts. After many trials and failed attempts, we found a recipe that fermented quickly, cleanly, and ended at a low and consistent final gravity. The nutrient profile and water salt additions were developed by our own Colin Kaminski, a former brewmaster and co-author of the book Water – A Comprehensive Guide for Brewers. Colin tested many different nutrient mixes and developed an easy-to-follow plan where the nutrient additions are staggered throughout fermentation. This ensures the yeast not only start strong, but finish strong as well. Each kit includes a water salt mix that provides some needed minerals and alkalinity to keep the yeast from driving the pH down too low. Our Hard Seltzer Recipe Kits are designed to be brewed with RO or Distilled Water. While tap water can be used as a substitute, we have found that seltzers made with tap water can be difficult to clarify. If you’ve been looking for a brew that is light, refreshing, and easy on the calories, wet your whistle with a White Water Hard Seltzer!

What is Hard Seltzer?

Hard Seltzer is a carbonated water beverage that contains alcohol and often fruit flavorings as well. You may also hear it referred to as spiked seltzer or hard sparkling water, and it has become very popular due to its low amount of calories for an alcoholic beverage. Although it started out as a trendy beverage, popular brands like White Claw and Truly proved so successful that hard seltzers, dare we say, aren't going anywhere.
